³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Philosophy on Inclusion and Research Excellence

Increasing representation from equity seeking groups strengthens ³Ô¹ÏÍø’s research efforts and the university as a whole. Building Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) into ³Ô¹ÏÍø’s research enterprise will proactively and collectively work towards eliminating systemic barriers faced by equity-deserving groups.

³Ô¹ÏÍø is aligned with the :

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council recognize that achieving a more equitable, diverse and inclusive Canadian research enterprise is essential to research excellence. An equitable research environment advances knowledge and understanding, and responds to local, national and global challenges.

With the goals of excellence in research and research training in mind, the agencies are committed to:

  1. Supporting equitable access to funding opportunities for all researchers and trainees.
  2. Promoting the integration of equity, diversity and inclusion-related considerations in research design and practices.
  3. Increasing equitable and inclusive participation in the research system, including on research teams.
  4. Collecting the data and conducting the analyses needed to include equity, diversity and inclusion considerations in decision-making.

By taking steps to foster an equitable research environment, the ³Ô¹ÏÍø will work with those involved in Canada’s research ecosystem to develop the inclusive culture needed to produce research that is rigorous, relevant and accessible to diverse populations.
