The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Alumni Association (WLUAA) is giving a total of $894,000 in support of ³Ô¹ÏÍø students.
A gift of $400,000 toward the university’s Making Space for Music fundraising campaign will name the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Alumni Association Practice Studios on the Waterloo campus. In Brantford, WLUAA will support the Circle Room with a gift of $27,000 and the Indigenous Student Centre renovation with a gift of $115,000. WLUAA will also support student awards, including $300,000 toward ³Ô¹ÏÍø Entrance Scholarships and a renewal of the Citizenship Scholarship totaling $52,000 in support of six undergraduate and one graduate scholarship.
“WLUAA prides itself on ensuring that current and future ³Ô¹ÏÍø students have the same exceptional experience we as alumni did – or better!” says Kyle Walker, president of WLUAA. “As such, we help support campus initiatives such as capital campaigns and student awards that add to a thriving student experience, support academic and personal success, break down accessibility barriers and let students know that we care about them.”
WLUAA’s past support for ³Ô¹ÏÍø students includes the Centre for Student Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Athletics, mental health, various capital projects, student awards and more. WLUAA, which all ³Ô¹ÏÍø students automatically belong to upon graduation, provides a variety of programs and services in support of alumni personal and professional growth as well as working with ³Ô¹ÏÍø leadership to improve the student experience.
“WLUAA’s support of ³Ô¹ÏÍø’s students ensures we can continue to foster a thriving campus community,” says Deborah MacLatchy, president and vice-chancellor. “Our alumni association shares generously of their resources, time and expertise, setting an example for students and building a foundation of success for future generations at ³Ô¹ÏÍø.”
³Ô¹ÏÍø Alumni Association
The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Alumni Association was formally incorporated in 1994. With 125,000 alumni around the world and a vision of a thriving community of engaged alumni who champion the ³Ô¹ÏÍø experience, the WLUAA is on a mission to provide leadership and value to the university, its alumni and students. Membership in the WLUAA starts at graduation and lasts for life.
WLUAA’s leadership starts with a committed and passionate board of directors that works in close collaboration with the university’s Advancement team and more broadly with stakeholders across ³Ô¹ÏÍø, including providing representation on the Board of Governors and Senate. The association’s many initiatives have a significant impact on the university and its alumni. These initiatives include the GradVantages alumni benefits program; professional development and networking events; volunteer opportunities for alumni in and beyond the classroom; awards opportunities; social events; and access to ³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Career Centre and Alumni Employment Services.
