1. Application of these Terms & Conditions

The following general terms and conditions apply to the following:

• Entrance Scholarships
• President's Gold
• Entrance Bursary
• ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award Program
• CIBC STEM Award
• Stay Golden Scholarship
• Milton's Founders Award

2. Definitions

2.1 Award: is granted on a competitive basis for a combination of academic achievement and participation in extra-curricular activities such as volunteer work or involvement in campus sports or clubs. Awards always require the submission of an application form.

2.2 Bursary: Granted on demonstrated financial need and satisfactory academic achievement.

2.3 Scholarship: Granted on a competitive basis for outstanding academic achievement. Based on recorded marks, or by application, in which other factors such as extra-curricular activities or volunteer work will be considered. Financial need is not a consideration.

2.4 Competitive Basis: The selection process where candidates are evaluated against one another based on predetermined criteria such as academic performance, extra-curricular involvement, or leadership skills.

2.5 Extra-Curricular Activities: Organized, non-academic activities like sports, clubs, volunteering, or other community involvement. Participation in these can be considered when applying for awards and scholarships.

2.6 Academic Achievement: A measure of a student's performance in their studies, usually represented by post-secondary grades or GPA,

2.7 Financial Need: A calculation of a student's financial situation, typically assessed through an application form.

2.8 Application Form: A required online submission that students complete to apply for bursaries or scholarships.

2.9 Automatically Granted: Refers to scholarships that do not require an application form, as they are based on pre-determined qualifications like academic records. These scholarships are automatically provided to students who meet the established criteria without needing to apply separately.

2.10 Approved Five-Year Honours Double Degree Program: The following programs are eligible to be considered on year four academic achievement:

• BBA/BA Financial Mathematics
• BBA/BSc Computer Science
• BBA/Honours Computing and Computer Electronics (UW)
• BBA/Honours Mathematics (Waterloo)

3. Entrance Scholarship

3.1 The Entrance Scholarship is offered based on your admission average. No application is required.

3.2 Entrance Scholarship recipients must meet all eligibility requirements:

• Attending post-secondary for the first time
• Starting their degree at ³Ô¹ÏÍø with fewer than 4.0 university credits previously attempted (at any university) or less than one year of full-time college education
• ³Ô¹ÏÍø must be the recipient's home institution.

3.3 Bachelor of Education students are not eligible for the Entrance Scholarship.

3.4 The Entrance Scholarship is offered based on an applicant’s admission average using final grades as of July in their year of entry.

• 3.4.1 Scholarship and award averages are based on two decimal points and are not rounded
• 3.4.2 Grades for courses completed in July or later in the year of entry cannot be considered for scholarship and award purposes. Summer school courses will not be counted in your scholarship average.
• 3.4.3 For curricula with a later end date, scholarships will be based on final grades as of the deadline listed on the offer of admission letter.
• 3.4.4 For information regarding general admission requirements and the courses used in the calculation of averages, visit the  admission requirements webpage.

3.5 Transfer credits are not included in the determination of eligibility for Entrance Scholarships.

3.6 Entrance Scholarship Values: The grid below indicates scholarship amounts, and the required admission averages to obtain them. Scholarship values are subject to change. This scholarship grid is valid for incoming students beginning in September 2025.

*This entrance scholarship is the President's Gold Scholarship.

• 3.6.1 Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and BBA double-degree students are eligible for entrance scholarships with an admission average of 90% and higher.
• 3.6.2 Recipients may not hold more than one Entrance Scholarship from the grid.
• 3.6.3 Recipients of the International Entrance Scholarship must be paying international tuition and incidental fees of the year entry. International students who become eligible for domestic tuition rates will be considered for the domestic Entrance Scholarship value.

3.7 The President’s Gold Scholarship is a renewable Entrance Scholarship for up to four years (or five years for approved double degree programs) based on an admission average is 95% or higher.

3.8 President’s Gold Scholarships are granted upon admission and are renewable for subsequent academic years if all the renewal requirements are met:

• You must achieve a minimum of a 10.5 GPA in courses taken in the previous academic year (September through August).
• You must have completed a minimum of 5.0 credits (or 10 half credits) in the previous academic year at ³Ô¹ÏÍø (September through August).
• If more than 5.0 credits are taken in an academic year, the GPA from all courses completed in an academic year will be used to determine renewal eligibility.
• To be eligible for renewal, recipients of the President's Gold Scholarship must be registered full time in two of the three terms from September through August (therefore a minimum of 2.0 credits pert term, in at least 2 of the 3 terms in the prior academic year).
• You are registered in a full-time course load over two, full-time academic terms in the current academic year, with ³Ô¹ÏÍø as your home institution.
  
  
  • 3.8.1 If the renewal requirements are not met in each academic year, the President's Gold Scholarship will not be renewed and cannot be renewed in a subsequent academic year.
  • 3.8.2 If the renewal requirements are not met students are automatically assessed for an In-Course Scholarship.
  • 3.8.3 President’s Gold recipients who begin their studies in the Winter terms will be required to complete 5.0 credits during the Winter and Spring terms in the same academic year (September – August) and achieve a 10.5 GPA to be eligible for scholarship renewal for the following academic year.
  • 3.8.4 Recipients who begin their studies in the Spring term are ineligible for future renewals of the President’s Gold Scholarship, as renewal requirements cannot be met.
  • 3.8.5 Recipients of the International President’s Gold Scholarship must be paying international tuition and incidental fees each year and meet all renewal requirements to qualify for renewal at the same value. International students who become eligible for domestic tuition rates will be considered for the domestic President’s Gold Scholarship value.

3.9 A student must be registered full-time (minimum 2.0 credits per term) to receive the full entrance scholarship amount. A student must register full-time in at least two terms within their first academic year (an academic year at ³Ô¹ÏÍø is from September to August).

• 3.9.1 Transfer credits do not count towards the minimum credit requirement or full-time registration requirement for entrance scholarship.

3.10 The value of the Entrance Scholarship is split between the first two terms of and automatically applied to the student account at the time of fee assessment each term, if the student meets the full-time registration requirements.

• 3.10.1 If a student is admitted in the Spring term (12-weeks) the student is only eligible to receive half the value of the Entrance Scholarship. The funding is automatically applied to the student account at the time of fee assessment, if the full-time registration requirement is met. 

4. Entrance Bursarsy

4.1 Entrance bursaries are available annually to incoming applicants. To be considered for an entrance bursary, applicants are required to complete an application by the outlined deadline. To be eligible applicants must meet all eligibility requirements:

• Domestic student (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Protected Persons).
• Full-time undergraduate program with ³Ô¹ÏÍø as your home institution.
• Attending post-secondary for the first time.
• Demonstrate financial need at the time of application, which is determined through a budget worksheet.
• ³Ô¹ÏÍø must be recipients home institution.

4.2 Second entry programs, such as the Bachelor of Education are not eligible for this program.

4.3 Applicants receiving the Entrance Bursary are not eligible for the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Tuition Bursary in their first year.

4.4 Entrance Bursary recipients must be registered full-time (minimum 2.0 credits per term) to receive the full entrance bursary amount. A student must register full-time in at least two terms within their first academic year (an academic year at ³Ô¹ÏÍø is from September to August).

• 4.4.1 Transfer credits do not count towards the minimum credit requirement for full-time registration.

5. ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award Program

5.1 The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award is an annual entrance scholarship to offer high-achieving students the opportunity to participate in a dynamic learning environment that will foster innovative thinking and ethical, visionary leadership.

5.2 Students are required to meet the eligibility criteria to be considered for the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award, which includes:

• You must accept your Offer of Admission by the deadline outlined in your offer.
• You must maintain a final admission average of 90% as of the beginning of July (for current Ontario high school applicants) or as of the middle of July (for all other applicants).
• You must meet all conditions listed on your offer of admission letter.
• Participation in the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars program is required. This is inclusive but not limited to the Scholars’ Colloquium, leadership development projects, and annual Scholars’ Conference. Your involvement will be reviewed annually.
• You must be applying direct to ³Ô¹ÏÍø from high school or as an international student entering your first year. Transfer students or applicants who have attended post-secondary education at another institution are not eligible.

5.3 You must have a final admission average of 90% as of the beginning of July (for current Ontario high school applicants) or as of the middle of July (for all other applicants).

5.4 The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award admission average requirement is based on an applicant’s admission average using final grades as of July in their year of entry.

• 5.4.1 Scholarship and award averages are based on two decimal points and are not rounded.
• 5.4.2 Grades for courses completed in July or later in the year of entry cannot be considered for scholarship and award purposes. Summer school courses will not be counted in your scholarship average.
• 5.4.3 For curricula with a later end date, scholarships will be based on final grades as of the deadline listed on the offer of admission letter.
• 5.4.4 For information regarding general admission requirements and the courses used in the calculation of averages, visit the  admission requirements webpage.

5.5 ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award Value: The total value of ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award is $40,000 scholarship over a four-year period. The award includes $7,500 per year for up to four years and an experiential learning award of $10,000.

• • 5.5.1 The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award offers a total of seven awards, one for each Faculty.

5.6 The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award is granted upon admission and are renewable for subsequent academic years if all the renewal requirements are met:

• You must achieve a minimum of a 10.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) in courses taken in the previous academic year (September through August).
• GPA is calculated using all courses taken during the fall, winter and spring terms of the previous academic year (September through August).
• You must have completed a minimum of 5.0 credits (or 10 half credits) in the previous academic year at ³Ô¹ÏÍø (September through August).
• If more than 5.0 credits are taken in an academic year, the GPA from all courses completed in an academic year will be used to determine renewal eligibility.
• To be eligible for renewal, recipients of the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award must be registered full-time in two of the three terms from September through August (therefore a minimum of 2.0 credits per term, in at least 2 of the 3 academic terms in the prior academic year).

• You must be registered with ³Ô¹ÏÍø as your home institution.
• To receive the funds in the current year, you must be registered in a full-time course load over two full-time academic terms in the current academic year.
• Participation in the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars program is required. This is inclusive but not limited to the Scholars’ Colloquium, leadership development projects, and annual Scholars’ Conference. Your involvement will be reviewed annually.
  
  
  • 5.6.1 If the renewal requirements are not met in each academic year, the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award will not be renewed and cannot be renewed in a subsequent academic year.
  • 5.6.2 If the renewal requirements are not met, you will automatically be considered for ³Ô¹ÏÍø’s in-course scholarship for the remainder of your studies.

5.7 If you withdraw or register to study part-time for more than one academic term in the academic year, you will no longer be eligible to receive the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award.

5.8 The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award cannot be deferred. Applicants seeking to defer their offer of admission may reapply for the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award, subject to the eligibility criteria and competitive selection process in effect at the time of reapplication.

5.9 By applying for the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award, you agree to allow your name and program of study to be used by the University to create and maintain a public record and feature recipients on ³Ô¹ÏÍø's websites for the purposes of promoting and celebrating the Award program.

6. CIBC STEM Entrance Award

6.1 The CIBC STEM Entrance Award is available annually to incoming applicants as of Fall 2025.

6.2 To be considered for a CIBC STEM Entrance Awards, applicants are required to complete an application form by the outlined deadline.  To be eligible applicants must meet all eligibility requirements:

• Full-time undergraduate students entering year one in any program at ³Ô¹ÏÍø.
• Be part of one or more of the following equity-deserving groups: Black students, Indigenous students, and/or students with disabilities.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• First preference is for the awards to be granted to eligible students who meet these criteria and are registered in a STEM program.

6.3 CIBC STEM Entrance Award recipients must be registered for full-time studies (a minimum of 2.0 credits is a full-time course load at ³Ô¹ÏÍø).

• 6.3.1 Transfer credits do not count towards the minimum credit requirement for full-time registration.

6.4 CIBC STEM Entrance Award Value: $5,000 will be granted to 15 recipients.

6.5 The CIBC STEM Entrance Award cannot be deferred. Applicants seeking to defer their offer of admission may reapply for the CIBC STEM Entrance Award, subject to the eligibility criteria and competitive selection process in effect at the time of reapplication.

6.6 By applying for the CIBC STEM Entrance Award, you agree to allow your name and program of study to be used by the University to create and maintain a public record and feature recipients on ³Ô¹ÏÍø's websites for the purposes of promoting and celebrating the Award program.

7. Stay Golden Scholarship

7.1 The Stay Golden Scholarship is an entrance scholarship offered to incoming international students in the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 cohorts.

7.2 Bachelor of Education students are not eligible for the Stay Golden Scholarship.

7.3 The Stay Golden Scholarship is offered based on your admission average. No application is required.

7.4 The Stay Golden Scholarship is offered based on an applicant’s admission average using final grades as of July in their year of entry.

• 7.4.1 Scholarship and award averages are based on two decimal points and are not rounded.
• 7.4.2 Grades for courses completed in July or later in the year of entry cannot be considered for scholarship and award purposes. Summer school courses will not be counted in your scholarship average.
• 7.4.3 For curricula with a later end date, scholarships will be based on final grades as of the deadline listed on the offer of admission letter.
• 7.4.4 For information regarding general admission requirements and the courses used in the calculation of averages, visit the  admission requirements webpage.

7.5 Stay Golden Scholarship recipients must meet all eligibility requirements:

• Accept your Offer of Admission by the deadline outlined on your offer.
• Meet all conditions listed by the deadline on your offer of admission letter.
• Studies must begin in Fall 2024 or Winter 2025.
• Must be paying international tuition and incidental fees.

7.6 Transfer credits are not included in the determination of eligibility for the Stay Golden Scholarship.

7.7 Stay Golden Scholarship Values: The grid below indicates scholarship amounts, and the required admission averages to obtain them. Scholarship values are subject to change. This scholarship grid is valid for incoming students beginning in Fall 2024 or Winter 2025.

*This is the international President’s Gold Scholarship.

• 7.7.1 Funding is for the maximum length of the approved program. Students will receive funding up to a maximum of $20,000 (or $25,000 for five-year programs). Students who require additional time to complete their program are eligible for the in-course scholarship.

7.8 The Stay Golden Scholarship are granted upon admission and are renewable for subsequent academic years if all the renewal requirements are met:

• You must be registered at ³Ô¹ÏÍø for studies in a full-time course load over two, full-time academic terms in the current academic year, with ³Ô¹ÏÍø as your home institution.
• You have completed a minimum of 5.0 full credits in the previous fall, winter, and spring terms (September to August) and maintained a 10.0 GPA.
• GPA is calculated using all courses completed at ³Ô¹ÏÍø in the previous academic year (September through April).
• Students are assessed in their second, third and fourth year based on their previous year’s GPA. Students in an approved five-year program will receive an additional assessment in their final year of studies.
• If more than 5.0 credits are taken in an academic year, the GPA from all courses completed in an academic year will be used to determine renewal eligibility.

• 7.8.2 If International President’s Gold recipients from the Fall 2024 cohort do not maintain the 10.5 GPA, they are eligible for the Stay Golden at ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholarship renewal.

7.9 Stay Golden Scholarship recipients must be assessed and paying international tuition and incidental fees during the terms they are eligible for the Stay Golden at ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholarship. Students who are approved for domestic tuition and incidental fees forfeit the Stay Golden at ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholarship and are eligible for ³Ô¹ÏÍø’s in-course scholarship.

7.10 Stay Golden Scholarship recipients admitted to and entering combined undergraduate and graduate programs are eligible for funding during their undergraduate program only.

7.11 Stay Golden Scholarship recipients who withdraw from ³Ô¹ÏÍø for longer than one academic year, you are not eligible for the Stay Golden at ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholarship.

7.12 The Stay Golden Scholarship cannot be deferred. Applicants deferring their offer will be considered for the Entrance Grid Scholarship at the time of readmission, based on eligibility and availability at that time.

8. Milton Founders Award

8.1 Milton Founders Scholarships support the top entering students at the Milton campus in Fall 2024.

8.2 There is no application for the Milton Founders' Scholarship; eligible applicants will automatically be considered and notified if they are successful recipients.

8.3 If you are a recipient of a Milton Founders' Scholarship, you must meet all conditions below to receive your award:

• You must accept your offer of admission by the deadline outlined in your offer.
• You must meet all conditions listed by the deadline on your offer of admission letter.
• Your studies must begin in the Fall of 2024.
• You must be attending a full-time undergraduate program at the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Milton campus.

8.4 Milton Founders' Scholarship Value: the total value is $5000 which is distributed over four years at $1,250 per year.

• 8.4.1 Scholarship values are subject to change.
• 8.4.2 This scholarship value is exclusively for incoming students of Fall 2024.

8.5 To receive a Milton Founders' Scholarship in your first year you must be registered for full-time studies (a minimum of 2.0 credits is a full-time course load at ³Ô¹ÏÍø).

8.6 The Milton Founders' Scholarships cannot be deferred.

8.7 Milton Founders' Scholarships are granted upon admission and are renewable for subsequent academic years if all the renewal requirements are met:

• Registered in a full-time undergraduate program at the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Milton campus.
• Meet all program requirements.
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.0.
• Registered in a full-time course load (min. 2.0 credits per term) in the current academic year (September to August).
  
  
• 8.7.1 The scholarship funds will automatically be applied to your full-time academic term if the renewal requirements are met.

8.8 If a Milton Founders' Scholarship recipients transfer to another campus, they will forfeit their scholarship.

9. Deferral of Scholarships or Bursaries

9.1 Deferrals are not guaranteed. For information regarding deferral processes visit the Defer Your Offer webpage.

9.2 The following awards cannot be deferred:

• Entrance Scholarship
• Entrance Bursaries
• Stay Golden at ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholarship
• Milton’s Founders Award
• ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award
• Milton’s Founders Award
• CIBC STEM Entrance Award

9.3 Scholarship and bursary availability, value, or eligibility requirements are subject to change. Applicants who defer their offer may face different terms and conditions at the time of readmission.

9.4 Applicants who defer their offer may be considered for the Entrance Scholarship at the time of readmission, based on the eligibility criteria and availability at that time. The value of the Entrance Scholarship may increase or decrease depending on the scholarship terms in effect during the year of enrollment.

9.5 Applicants who defer their offer may have the opportunity to apply for an Entrance Bursary in the year they plan to enroll at ³Ô¹ÏÍø, provided they meet the bursary's eligibility criteria and submission deadlines in effect at that time.

9.6 The Stay Golden Scholarship cannot be deferred. Applicants deferring their offer will be considered for the Entrance Grid Scholarship at the time of readmission, based on eligibility and availability at that time.

9.7 The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award cannot be deferred. Applicants seeking to defer their offer of admission may reapply for the ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award, subject to the eligibility criteria and competitive selection process in effect at the time of reapplication.

9.8 The CIBC STEM Entrance Award cannot be deferred. Applicants seeking to defer their offer of admission may reapply for the CIBC STEM Entrance Award, subject to the eligibility criteria and competitive selection process in effect at the time of reapplication.

9.9 Applicants selected through a competitive process who defer their offer will forfeit their scholarship. They may reapply for available competitive Entrance Scholarships upon readmission, subject to the eligibility criteria and deadlines in effect at that time. It is the applicant's responsibility to be aware of all scholarship application requirements.

10. Accumulation of Scholarships

10.1 Students may receive only one of the following entrance scholarships or awards:

• Entrance Grid Scholarship (including President's Gold Scholarship)
• ³Ô¹ÏÍø Scholars Award
• Stay Golden Scholarship

10.2 However, students may accumulate the following scholarships, awards, and bursaries in addition to the above:

• Entrance Bursaries
• Milton Founders’ Scholarship
• CIBC STEM Award
• Inspiring Lives Scholarship
• Other Entrance Competitive Scholarships

10.3 The monetary value of all scholarships, awards, and Bursaries are subject to change. ³Ô¹ÏÍø reserves the right to change the listed award, scholarship, or bursary value and/or requirements without notice.

10.4 If you have received any scholarship, award, or bursary, the amount may be adjusted or revoked if you withdraw or drop to part-time studies. Please reach out to studentawards@wlu.ca with any specific concerns.

11. Discretion of the University

11.1 Every attempt has been made to be clear in the communication of the terms and conditions outlined in this document. In the event of any interpretive disputes, ³Ô¹ÏÍø reserves the right to render a final determination on eligibility for scholarships and renewability. There is no appeal process available for competitive entrance scholarships and institutional scholarships. Interpretation of grade and academic equivalencies is solely at the discretion of ³Ô¹ÏÍø.

11.2 Clarifying amendments to the terms and conditions for scholarships may be made by ³Ô¹ÏÍø without notice.

12. Other Terms and Conditions

12.1 Eligible candidates must be admitted to a four-year, full time, undergraduate degree program and satisfy any/all conditions included in an official offer of admission, including the fulfillment of academic conditions, confirmation of offer and payment of tuition deposit (if required) by all noted deadline dates.

12.2 If a deadline date falls on a weekend or statutory holiday in Canada, the next business day will apply.

12.3 Grades of CR do not impact the required minimum overall GPA. You must still meet all other eligibility requirements.
