Led by Colin Labadie, the Summer Theory Preparatory Course is designed for incoming Faculty of Music students. The course will help students improve their foundational theory skills and set them up for success at ³Ô¹ÏÍø.
There will be a different module each week, each covering a different topic:
Module 1: Notes on the staff; Rhythmic Values; Meter
Module 2: Scales and Key Signatures
Module 3: Intervals
Module 4: Triads and Seventh Chords
Module 5: Chord Progressions
Module 6: Review and final assessment
Each module consists of a live 2-hour online tutorial with the instructor, which will be supported by take-home assignments based on that week’s topic. The weekly live tutorials will be recorded and posted for students who may not be able to attend on a given week, or for students to review while working on their assignments.
Each live session will begin by answering questions from the previous week’s assignment, followed by a tutorial on that week’s topic. Students are welcome and encouraged to ask questions in real-time during these sessions. The instructor will also be available to answer questions via email through the week.
