The 1987 musical Into the Woods with Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and Book by James Lapine, intertwines plots of the Brothers Grimm fairytales, heeding audiences to be "careful the wish you make". The story follows a baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to go to the King’s Festival, Little Red Riding Hood who wishes to go to her grandmother's house, and Jack who wishes his cow would give him some milk. When the neighborhood witch reveals that she placed a curse on the baker's family, the couple sets off into the woods to reverse the curse. After everyone has gotten their wish and will seemingly live happily ever after, the group is visited by an angry Giant. And the consequences of their actions haunt them in disastrous ways. They must unite to save each other and their kingdom, but sacrifices must be made.
