Amanda Smith (she/her) is a stage director and Founding Artistic Director of , with whom she commissions, develops, produces, and directs new operas and experimental music shows. In 2020, Amanda was a Dora Award Nominee for “Outstanding Direction” on FAWN’s devised opera-ballet Pandora, which also received a nomination for “Outstanding Production”. Some of the companies Amanda has directed and developed projects for include Tafelmusik, the Banff Centre, the Glenn Gould Opera School, New Music Concerts, The Music Gallery, Opera ³Ô¹ÏÍø, Against the Grain Theatre, Cowtown Opera, ICOT, Dalhousie University, and the Stratford Summer Music Festival.
This June, Amanda will direct a new production of The Turn of the Screw with Opera 5. Shortly after, she expects to complete her Master’s in Interdisciplinary Studies at York University, where she is studying devised opera methods and how they impact artists and audiences, especially in relation to empathy.
