I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Education from York University at the Intermediate/Senior level in Health and Physical Education and Social Sciences. Later, I completed a Masters of Education in Equity and Social Justice and a PhD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto in the area of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning.
Prior to being at ³Ô¹ÏÍø, I was an instructor in the School of Early Childhood Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University and in the Master of Teaching and Bachelor of Education program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at University of Toronto. I am an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) where I previously worked for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and taught in the field of Child and Youth Care at Humber and George Brown College.
I am the Chair of the in the Faculty of Education. You can learn more about the Coalition via the 2023 Year in Review Report. As of 2024, the EDI&I Coalition launched the the where guests are hosted to facilitate critical conversations. The sessions are recorded and turned into podcast episodes as resources.
I am the author of (2019), and the author of (2019), and co-editor of (2021 with Drs. Zuhra Abawi & Rachel Berman), (2022 with Drs. I am also the founder and Director of EDIcation Consulting () offering equity, diversity, and inclusion training, audits, and capacity-building workshops to organizations, corporations, community agencies, and schools to create thriving conditions and cultures to help them thrive and acheive to their full potential.
With respect to community involvement, I am a former member of the with the Toronto Police Service (2021-2023), a past Board of Directors member for which provides educational programs and services for incarcerated youth and young adults, and a community activist with the non-profit organization (YAAACE) in the Jane and Finch community in Toronto. I co-host YAAACE's podcast which amplifies marginalized voices as counter-narratives discussing issues related to the roots of violence. I am also a Member at Large for the with over 200 members. I am also an active international referee for wheelchair basketball representing Canada, most recently having officiated at the Men’s South America Championships in Bogota, Colombia in November 2024. I also serve as a member of the .
