Message on Canada Day from ³Ô¹ÏÍø's president

Dear ³Ô¹ÏÍø community,
Canada as a nation holds different meanings for those of us who call this land home. For some, Canada Day is a day to celebrate the many positive aspects of our society, while for others it is a difficult reminder of the legacy of colonialism.
One of the most positive qualities of Canada is the opportunity we have to engage in discourse and education. On Canada Day, I encourage members of our university community to value this ability to learn more about Canada’s history in the spirit of truth and reconciliation.
At ³Ô¹ÏÍø’s , faculty and graduate students from more than a dozen departments work alongside external research fellows to help us better understand the varying interpretations of Canada.
I am grateful to our many scholars for this important and thoughtful work. The commitment I have seen at ³Ô¹ÏÍø to pursuing truth and reconciliation and a deep understanding of Canada’s complex legacy gives me great hope for our future as a thoughtful and just society.
